I get horrible test taking anxiety when I’m at school and even worse anxiety before presentations and, for me, the driving test was a horrifying combination of the two.ĭuring my final exam week in December, I realized that, because I’m a senior, this winter break would be my last longterm stay in Baltimore. It’s not that I didn’t feel comfortable driving my dad was an excellent teacher. The main reason I put off taking the driving test, though, was my anxiety.Įvery time I’d think about taking the test, I’d freeze up and come up with some excuse to put it off until the next break. I go to school in Pennsylvania, where out-of-state learner’s permit owners aren’t allowed to drive, so I was only able to practice driving when I was home for breaks. I didn’t get my learner’s permit until the summer after my freshman year of college because my rehearsal schedule for chorus and the musicals conflicted with all of the times driver’s ed was offered and I knew I didn’t want to take the knowledge test until I had my permit. I won’t beat around the bush: I’m a 21-year-old who just got my driver’s license yesterday.Ī lot of factors went into my putting this off for about five years.
